Plenty of people wish they were taller. No matter what your height, it is possible to use your stature to your advantage. Even the most petite person can gain a few visual inches by following a few of the steps below.

  1. Start with posture. Nothing shrinks us faster than a slump. Stand and sit tall whenever you can. The more you do it, the easier it will become. As another bonus, standing straight tightens your abdominal muscles, which can help you look thinner.
  2. Have confidence. When we are confident, our stride elongates and we naturally walk taller. Have faith and confidence in who you are and you will instantly gain visual inches.
  3. Plan your wardrobe. There are a few changes you can make to your wardrobe that will enhance your height. Start with monochromatic colors. This doesn’t mean you must wear all black every day. Try to coordinate your wardrobe so that it creates a look of one single line or color instead of breaking your body up into chunks. Wide leg or boot cut pants will also help your legs to look longer.
  4. Wear a sturdy foundation. Nothing helps your posture and confidence more than wearing the right undergarments. Start with a bra fitting. Get professional help to be sure you get the right fit. The extra lift provided by a sturdy bra will add inches to your height. If you chest hangs to your waist or knees, you will look slouchy no matter what you wear.
  5. Wear pointed heels. Stacking yourself into stilettos can be painful and often not worth the extra height you obtain. Instead choose 2 ½” or 3” heels, which allow you additional height while being comfortable enough to walk or stand throughout your daily routine. A narrow or pointed toe can also help extend the look of your legs.
  6. Accessorize with length. Do not over-accessorize. Bulky earrings or necklaces can bunch up and create blocks of color that divide your body and make it look shorter. Try to stick with a single metal (gold or silver) and narrow or finely-wrought chains. Go for a  longer chain and small pendants when wearing a necklace. The long V-shape created by a necklace draws the eye down and makes you look taller.

Height is not something you can change. Having confidence means accepting what nature gave you vertically and then applying a few simple tools to make the most of what you have. With a little planning, you can create an elegant and sophisticated wardrobe that makes you look taller and thinner.
