Warm oatmeal cookies are a healthy treat for almost any occasion. The nutrition of these treats makes them a favorite of many families. With a little effort and a few wholesome ingredients, you can make oatmeal cookies that your family will love.
Ingredients:
2 cups flour
1 cup oats
¾ cup sugar
1 cup brown sugar
1 tsp vanilla
½ tsp almond extract
1 cup butter (softened)
2 eggs
1 tsp baking powder
½ cup raisins (optional)
Tools:
Large mixing bowl
Baking sheet
2 spoons
- Assemble the ingredients.
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
- Blend the ingredients. Start with the flour, oats, sugar and brown sugar. Mix lightly with your hands and then add the remaining ingredients. You don’t have to add the ingredients in order but starting with the dry ingredients may make it easier to avoid large clumps of oats. Mix the ingredients until the dough is thick and sticky.
- Spoon the dough onto the baking sheet. Try to space the cookies out 1” – 2” apart. The dough should be about the size of a teaspoon or golf ball.
- Bake for 8-10 minutes. The cookies should be golden brown when you remove them from the oven. If you make larger cookies, you may need to check on them halfway through baking to flatten them out so that they cook evenly.
- Let the cookies cool. They should cool for at least one minute before being removed from the baking sheet. It only takes a few minutes and your cookies will be ready to eat. Recipe makes 2-3 dozen cookies.
- Enjoy. Snack on a cookie and share them with your friends and family.
Oatmeal cookies remind many of us of home. Curl up with your kids on a rainy day or pack cookies for a summer picnic. Oatmeal cookies are a healthy treat you can enjoy any time and anywhere.
